Overview

**RNA, U6 small nuclear 927, pseudogene (RNU6-927P)** is a non-functional genomic sequence that resembles the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene, but lacks the ability to encode a functional RNA product[1][6]. Like other U6 snRNA pseudogenes, it is classified as a **pseudogene**, meaning it is a defunct genomic copy derived from a functional gene that has lost its original function. The canonical U6 snRNA is an essential component of the spliceosome, the complex responsible for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells[5][7]. However, pseudogenes such as RNU6-927P do not participate in splicing or any other known cellular function due to their inability to produce functional RNA or protein. These elements are widely present in the genome, possibly reflecting evolutionary backup copies or the result of retrotranspositional events[5][3]. RNU6-927P is not known to be associated with any disease, does not interact with drugs, nor does it have utility as a biomarker or therapeutic target.
