Target intelligence / Profile preview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 938, pseudogene (RNU6-938P)

Target
RNU6-938P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA (ncRNA)
01

Overview

RNU6-938P is a pseudogene copy of the gene encoding U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), which is a core component of the spliceosome RNA-protein complex responsible for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes[1][3][5]. The U6 snRNA gene is highly conserved and essential for splicing; however, pseudogenes like RNU6-938P are generally considered non-functional remnants of gene duplication, and are not transcribed into active snRNA or involved in RNA splicing[4][5]. The human genome contains many such snRNA pseudogenes, and while some pseudogenes may have a regulatory role through RNA-mediated mechanisms, there is no evidence that RNU6-938P has any such function[5][4]. RNU6-938P is not considered a therapeutic target, and there are no associated drugs, biomarkers, or disease links specific to this pseudogene.
