Overview

RNU6-944P, also known as RNA, U6 small nuclear 944, pseudogene, is a non-protein-coding pseudogene located on human chromosome 16 and annotated with HGNC ID 47907[5][6][7]. It represents a defunct copy of a gene for a U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) transcript, belonging to the family of U6 snRNA genes that contribute to the spliceosomal machinery in their functional forms[4]. As a pseudogene, RNU6-944P does not produce a functional protein or RNA product, and, like many pseudogenes, it is typically considered biologically inactive[1][3][5][6][7]. However, general studies of pseudogene transcripts suggest that such RNAs can sometimes regulate their parent genes or participate in non-coding regulatory networks via mechanisms such as acting as microRNA sponges (competing endogenous RNAs), but no direct evidence supports a functional regulatory role for RNU6-944P specifically[2]. This locus is not recognized as a therapeutic target, lacks known disease associations, and there are no drugs, biomarkers, or specific safety concerns linked to it.

Biological functions

Other (no established direct biological function; as a pseudogene, may have regulatory RNA roles based on general pseudogene studies[2])
03

Disease associations

Other (no established disease role; pseudogene RNAs can potentially play regulatory roles in gene expression, but no evidence specific for RNU6-944P[2])
