Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 947, pseudogene (RNU6-947P) is a processed pseudogene located on chromosome 1 of Homo sapiens[1][3]. It originated via retrotransposition of U6 snRNA by LINE element activity, resulting in a noncoding genomic sequence that lacks the function of the canonical U6 small nuclear RNA[2]. Pseudogenes like RNU6-947P are generally considered genomic "fossils": they do not produce functional RNAs or proteins. The U6 snRNA is a critical part of the spliceosome machinery, but its pseudogenes, including RNU6-947P, are not involved in splicing or any recognized cellular pathway. No known diseases, drugs, or biomarker utility are associated with this sequence. As a pseudogene, it is not a target for therapeutic intervention and holds no notable clinical or pharmacological significance.

Mechanism of action

none

03

Biological functions

None established for RNU6-947P. In general, most U6 pseudogenes are considered remnants of retrotransposition events and do not participate in canonical biological processes. Some pseudogenes may act as regulatory RNAs in rare cases, but this is not documented for RNU6-947P.
04

Disease associations

None directly linked. While pseudogenes as a class can occasionally play roles in cancer or gene regulation by acting as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), there is no evidence associating RNU6-947P with any disease phenotype, biomarker status, or therapeutic relevance.
