Target
RNU6-949P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, non-coding RNA-derived pseudogene
01

Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 949, pseudogene (RNU6-949P) is a processed pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family found in the human genome[4][5]. U6 snRNA is an essential component of the spliceosome and catalyzes pre-mRNA splicing, but RNU6-949P itself does not produce functional RNA or protein and is regarded as a non-coding, nonfunctional genomic element[1][4][5]. Pseudogenes such as RNU6-949P are typically considered transcriptionally inactive; however, in some cases, pseudogene transcripts can exert regulatory roles through RNA-mediated mechanisms (e.g., functioning as miRNA decoys or producing regulatory lncRNAs), although such functions have not been demonstrated for RNU6-949P[2]. There are no data implicating RNU6-949P in any disease, nor is it used as a biomarker or drug target at present[4][5].

Biological functions

May act as an RNA species with regulatory potential in some contexts, but no evidence for classical molecular functionpseudogenes can have diverse regulatory roles (e.g., miRNA decoy), but no function specified for RNU6-949P
03

Disease associations

No current evidence for a specific disease association or role for RNU6-949P itselfOther pseudogenes can act as miRNA decoys and be involved in cancer, but this is not reported for RNU6-949P specifically
