Target intelligence / Profile preview
RNA, U6 small nuclear 957, pseudogene (RNU6-957P) is classified as a pseudogene of the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family. U6 snRNAs are essential non-coding RNAs that function within the spliceosome, a large RNA-protein complex responsible for the excision of introns from pre-mRNA during the process of splicing. However, RNU6-957P is specifically a pseudogene form, meaning it is a nonfunctional genomic DNA sequence resembling the functional U6 snRNA gene and does not produce a functional RNA product. Pseudogenes like RNU6-957P do not encode proteins or function as direct molecular targets (e.g., enzymes, receptors, transporters). While some pseudogenes can have regulatory or natural antisense RNA roles, there is currently no evidence of direct biological, therapeutic, or disease involvement specifically for RNU6-957P. RNU6-957P is not a functional gene or therapeutic target but a genomic remnant related to the U6 small nuclear RNA gene family. It does not have known roles in disease, drug interaction, or utility as a biomarker. The canonical function of U6 snRNA is catalytic in pre-mRNA splicing, but this does not apply to the pseudogene form.
