U6 snRNA is an essential component of the spliceosome, the complex responsible for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells[1][3]. However, RNU6-971P itself does not produce functional U6 snRNA and is annotated as a pseudogene, meaning it is generally believed to be non-functional and does not have a role as a therapeutic or biological target. While some pseudogenes have been shown to produce non-coding RNAs that may regulate other genes, there is no published evidence that RNU6-971P serves any such function[6].
