01

Overview

RNU6-979P is a processed pseudogene derived from the gene encoding U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), an essential component of the spliceosome complex[1][2][5].\nU6 snRNA plays a critical role in pre-mRNA splicing and is one of the most evolutionarily conserved RNAs, but pseudogenes such as RNU6-979P do not encode an active molecule and generally arise through retrotransposition mediated by LINE (L1, L2) elements[2]. These pseudogenes are characterized by the lack of intronic sequences and presence of mutations compared with functional parental genes[2]. Although U6 snRNA is fundamental for spliceosome activity and RNA processing, pseudogene copies serve mainly as relics or genomic markers of retrotransposition events, with no direct functional or therapeutic significance[2][5].
