Overview

RNU6-984P (RNA, U6 small nuclear 984, pseudogene) is a non-coding RNA pseudogene in the human genome. It derives from the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family, which is fundamentally involved in the formation of the spliceosome, a complex responsible for splicing pre-mRNA during post-transcriptional modification in eukaryotes[1][3][5]. However, as a pseudogene, RNU6-984P is considered a non-functional genomic sequence that originated from the duplication of a functional U6 snRNA gene but has lost its original gene function due to accumulated mutations or lack of required regulatory elements[4][5]. Pseudogenes like RNU6-984P are not considered therapeutic targets, enzymes, receptors, or transporters. They do not encode functional proteins and, with current knowledge, have not been implicated in disease mechanisms, do not interact with drugs, and are not used as clinical biomarkers. Their main significance is as a non-coding remnant in the genome, with rare pseudogenes occasionally gaining regulatory functions, but no such function is currently established for RNU6-984P[4][5].
