Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 986, pseudogene (RNU6-986P) is a human pseudogene derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene family[2][8]. The U6 snRNA is an essential, highly conserved component of the spliceosome—an RNA-protein complex crucial for pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotes[3][1]. However, RNU6-986P itself is a non-functional copy (pseudogene) of the U6 snRNA gene, containing sequence homology to the functional U6 gene but generally not producing a functional RNA or protein product[2][5][8]. Pseudogenes like RNU6-986P may sometimes be transcribed, and in some cases, pseudogene transcripts can regulate gene expression by acting as antisense RNAs, small interfering RNAs (siRNAs), or competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs)[4]; there is no direct evidence that RNU6-986P has such regulatory activities. It is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or regulator, and has no known associated drugs, biomarker utility, or safety concerns.

Biological functions

Other (no established biological function; may be transcribed but is not known to encode a protein or functional RNA product)

Disease associations

Other (no confirmed disease role; pseudogenes can sometimes regulate parental genes or act as competitive endogenous RNAs, but this is not described for RNU6-986P specifically)[4].
