Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 994, pseudogene (abbreviated RNU6-994P), is a human pseudogene annotated as an unprocessed, noncoding RNA locus located on chromosome 20[3][5]. It does not encode a protein and is considered a processed pseudogene derived from small nuclear RNA (snRNA), specifically a member of the U6 snRNA family[3][5]. There is no evidence that RNU6-994P has been characterized functionally as a therapeutic or diagnostic target, nor has it been directly implicated in disease. However, pseudogenes in general can sometimes regulate gene expression—by serving as competitive endogenous RNAs or miRNA decoys, or generating regulatory noncoding RNAs[2][4]. No such functional data exists for RNU6-994P specifically, and there are no known disease, drug, or biomarker associations for this locus. RNU6-994P is best classified as a noncoding, non-functional genomic element with possible, but unconfirmed, regulatory roles. The lack of aliases, functional annotation, or disease relevance, and its classification as a pseudogene means it is not a valid therapeutic target[3][5][7].

Biological functions

Regulation of gene expression (potential through noncoding RNA mechanisms common to pseudogenes)
03

Disease associations

None confirmed; no direct link to disease found in available data, but pseudogenes in general may play regulatory roles in cancer or other conditions via RNA mechanisms
