Overview

RNA, U6 small nuclear 997, pseudogene (RNU6-997P) is a genomic sequence derived from the U6 small nuclear RNA, belonging to the snRNA-related pseudogene family[1][3][5][7]. U6 snRNA plays a role in the spliceosome, but pseudogenes such as RNU6-997P do not produce functional RNA and lack coding capability. These sequences generally result from retrotransposition events and are scattered throughout the genome[6]. While functional snRNAs are important for pre-mRNA splicing, the pseudogene variants serve mainly as markers for retrotransposon activity and do not participate in cellular processes. RNU6-997P is not regarded as a therapeutic target or biomarker, and there are no drugs or diseases directly associated with its activity[3][6]. Its presence in gene databases is primarily for completeness in genome annotation, not due to biological or medical relevance[1][5].

Biological functions

Other — As a pseudogene, it is not known to have a direct biological function.Related to snRNA processing and genome organization, though not functional itself
03

Disease associations

Other — No known disease associations; some U6 snRNA pseudogenes are markers of retrotransposition dynamics, but do not have direct disease roles
