RNA, U6atac small nuclear 15, pseudogene (RNU6ATAC15P)

Target
RNU6ATAC15P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, non-coding RNA pseudogene, small nuclear RNA pseudogene
01

Overview

RNU6ATAC15P, or RNA, U6atac small nuclear 15, pseudogene, is a non-functional processed pseudogene located on the human genome. It is derived from retrotransposition events mediated by L1 (LINE-1) reverse transcriptase that copied uracil-rich small nuclear RNAs such as U6atac snRNA into genomic DNA, resulting in numerous non-functional copies. Unlike the functional U6atac snRNA, which participates in the minor spliceosome for splicing U12-type introns, RNU6ATAC15P does not encode a functional RNA or protein nor participate in any cellular process. The cataloging of such pseudogenes helps in understanding genomic organization and the evolution of retrotransposon activity, but RNU6ATAC15P has no direct role in gene regulation, disease, pharmacology, or therapy.

02

Mechanism of action

None (no known mechanism as a drug target)

03

Biological functions

None (pseudogenes, by definition, do not have active biological functions; functional U6atac snRNA is involved in minor spliceosome activity, but RNU6ATAC15P is inactive)
04

Disease associations

None directly (No known disease association; however, the presence and number of U6 snRNA pseudogenes serve as markers for historical L1 retrotransposition activity in mammalian genomes)
05

Safety considerations

None (not used therapeutically; presents no safety or therapeutic challenge)
06

Interacting drugs

None (pseudogenes are not drug targets; no drugs interact with RNU6ATAC15P)
07

Biomarkers

None directly; numbers of snRNA pseudogenes can be used in research as markers of retrotransposition activity but not in routine patient care
