It is classified as a pseudogene because, while related to the U7 small nuclear RNA gene (whose functional product is required for histone pre-mRNA processing[1]), this locus harbors disabling mutations or lacks the regulatory capacity to produce a functional U7 snRNA product. Like other pseudogenes, RNU7-126P is typically not transcribed into a functional RNA, though some pseudogenes are transcribed and can have regulatory roles such as acting as decoys for microRNAs, generating siRNAs, or modulating the expression of protein-coding genes through various RNA-mediated mechanisms[2][6]. However, there are no direct reports of RNU7-126P itself being involved in such functions. In general, the biological and pathological significance of this specific pseudogene remains unclear, and it is not considered a therapeutic target[4].
