**RNA, U7 small nuclear 138 pseudogene (RNU7-138P)** is a processed pseudogene of the U7 small nuclear RNA gene family. U7 snRNA plays a well-established role as part of the U7 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein complex responsible for processing histone pre-mRNA in eukaryotes, but the 138 pseudogene variant contains features typical of reverse-transcribed, nonfunctional gene copies and does not produce a functional RNA product or protein[1][5][6]. Pseudogenes such as RNU7-138P generally lack coding or functional capacity, serve no direct biological function, and are not recognized as therapeutic targets or disease biomarkers[4][5][6]. In genomic studies, pseudogenes can sometimes act as regulatory RNAs by titrating microRNAs, but there is no evidence for a specific function of this pseudogene. Its identification is primarily as a noncoding RNA gene remnant with sequence similarity to the functional U7 snRNA gene.
