RNA, U7 small nuclear 149 pseudogene (RNU7-149P) is classified as a pseudogene—a genomic sequence resembling a functional gene but generally lacks coding capacity and biological activity due to accumulated mutations or deletions[1][7]. It is named for its sequence similarity to U7 small nuclear RNA, which is involved in the processing of histone pre-mRNA in humans; however, as a pseudogene, RNU7-149P is not known to produce functional RNA or protein products, nor to have regulatory functions or disease associations characteristic of some other pseudogenes. There is no evidence that RNU7-149P is involved in any biological process, acts as a receptor/enzyme/transporter, or serves as a biomarker or therapeutic target[1][7]. The name and abbreviation are standardized and not misspelled; however, the molecular entity itself does not meet the criteria for a druggable or functionally relevant biological target. The U7 family of snRNAs (such as RNU7-1) does play a role in histone pre-mRNA processing, but this function is not attributed to the 149 pseudogene copy[5][9]. No drugs, mechanisms of action, biomarkers, or safety issues are reported for RNU7-149P. Its designation as a pseudogene means it is not currently considered in molecular classification frameworks such as "receptor," "enzyme," or related families. If regulatory or disease associations of RNU7-149P are discovered in the future, these may warrant structural updates. For now, its relevance is strictly as a non-functioning pseudogene[1][7].
