RNA, U7 small nuclear 159 pseudogene (RNU7-159P)

Target
RNU7-159P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA pseudogene
01

Overview

RNU7-159P is a non-coding RNA pseudogene annotated in the human genome. It is homologous to the functional U7 small nuclear RNA (U7 snRNA), which is involved in processing histone pre-mRNA as part of the U7 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) complex[5][7]. However, as a pseudogene designated "159," RNU7-159P is presumed nonfunctional—it does not encode a functional RNA product and is not known to be transcribed or biologically active in any tissue[2][8]. Pseudogenes in general are DNA sequences that resemble functional genes but have lost their protein-coding or RNA activity due to mutations or genomic rearrangements[8]. Unlike the functional RNU7-1 gene, whose disruption is associated with Aicardi-Goutières syndrome[1], RNU7-159P has no documented disease association or molecular function. It is included in genome annotations for completeness but does not represent a valid drug target, biomarker, or therapeutic entity.
