The U7 small nuclear RNA is a component of the U7 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) complex, which is essential for histone pre-mRNA processing, but pseudogenes of U7, including RNU7-161P, are non-functional remnants and do not encode functional RNA or protein products[1][2][3]. These pseudogenes typically arise through reverse transcription and genomic integration, often displaying sequence similarity to their parental gene but lacking expression or function[3][5][8]. As such, RNU7-161P is not considered a therapeutic target, does not have known biological functions, disease associations, or drug interactions, and should not be confused with the functional U7 small nuclear RNA[1][2].
