Overview

RNU7-176P is classified as a pseudogene related to the U7 small nuclear RNA family. U7 snRNA is normally involved in the processing of histone pre-mRNA, but pseudogenes such as RNU7-176P contain mutations and other sequence disruptions that prevent them from coding any functional RNA product[7][5]. Pseudogenes are typically remnants of ancestral genes that have lost their functional activity due to mutation and do not participate in normal cellular processes or disease pathways[4][7]. While rare cases exist of pseudogenes exerting regulatory effects in the genome, there is no evidence that RNU7-176P is transcribed, translated, or functionally active[7][6][5]. It is not considered a drug target, receptor, enzyme, or biomarker and is primarily of interest as a genomic annotation. There is nothing misspelled, but the target is not a functional gene, receptor, or protein, and therefore should not be considered a therapeutic target by standard definitions[6][7][5].
