Overview

RNU7-22P is a pseudogene corresponding to the U7 small nuclear RNA family. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are non-functional; they do not encode active products due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements. The U7 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), in its functional (non-pseudogene) form, is part of the U7 snRNP complex and is essential for the 3' end processing of replication-dependent histone pre-mRNAs[1][5][7]. However, as a pseudogene, RNU7-22P does not produce a functional RNA or protein, lacks known biological functions, disease roles, or therapeutic relevance, and is not considered a drug target[1][6][7]. Key points: - Pseudogene status means RNU7-22P does not encode functional RNA or protein, making it non-functional and not a therapeutic target[1][6][7]. - The functional homolog, U7 snRNA, is involved in histone mRNA 3' end processing, but this role is not conferred to its pseudogenes[4][5]. - No clinical, therapeutic, or biomarker associations are known for RNU7-22P[1][6][7]. There is something wrong with this target if considering as a therapeutic target: "RNU7-22P" is not an active gene or receptor but a non-functional pseudogene.
