Overview

RNA, U7 small nuclear 57 pseudogene" (RNU7-57P) is a predicted non-coding RNA pseudogene in the human genome. It is part of a family of sequences similar to the functional U7 small nuclear RNA genes; however, as a pseudogene it is **not believed to be transcribed into a functional product** or to play any known role in normal cellular physiology or disease. Functional U7 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), such as that produced by the RNU7-1 gene, is an essential component of the U7 snRNP complex and is required for the 3’ end processing of replication-dependent histone pre-mRNAs[1][2][3][4][6]. In contrast, pseudogenes like RNU7-57P generally do not produce active RNA or protein and have no established biological or therapeutic relevance.\n\nPseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but typically nonfunctional due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements. Functional U7 snRNA has key roles in *histone mRNA processing* and possibly in the regulation of certain repeat elements and transcription factors[3][4][6]. However, these functions do not apply to pseudogenes in this family.\n\nThe entry "RNA, U7 small nuclear 57 pseudogene" refers to a **pseudogene, not a protein, receptor, enzyme, or functional RNA target**, and is not considered a therapeutic target. As such, fields related to targeting, drug interaction, biological function, and disease roles are not applicable. If a functional U7 snRNA is intended, then RNU7-1 ("RNA, U7 small nuclear 1") should be referenced instead[1][2][6].
