Overview

RNU7-82P (RNA, U7 small nuclear 82 pseudogene) is a pseudogene—a genomic DNA sequence similar to the functional gene for U7 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), but with no known protein product or biological function[1]. U7 snRNA itself is a component of the U7 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP), which is essential for histone pre-messenger RNA (mRNA) 3’ end processing[2][3][5]. However, RNU7-82P does not encode a functional RNA and is classified as a non-coding, non-functional remnant within the genome[1]. As a pseudogene, it is not considered a therapeutic target, does not have a physiological role, is not known to be associated with any diseases, and does not interact with any drugs. Functional U7 snRNAs are critical for histone mRNA maturation and cell cycle regulation, but pseudogenes like RNU7-82P generally represent evolutionary relics and are not actively transcribed into functional molecules[5][1]. While rare exceptions exist where some pseudogenes may play regulatory roles, current database entries and literature provide no evidence that RNU7-82P has any biological or pathological activity[1].
