RNU7-85P (RNA, U7 small nuclear 85 pseudogene) is a pseudogene of the U7 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) gene. The U7 snRNA is an essential component of the U7 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein (snRNP) complex, which is critical for the 3′-end processing of histone pre-mRNA in eukaryotic cells. However, RNU7-85P itself represents a non-functional, non-coding RNA sequence derived from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and is not believed to be functionally expressed as either RNA or protein. Functional U7 snRNA (not RNU7-85P) is involved in histone mRNA maturation, an essential cellular process. The presence of multiple U7 snRNA pseudogenes in the human genome is a common phenomenon, and these are typically transcriptionally inactive and do not contribute to known physiological or disease processes. In summary, RNU7-85P is a non-functional pseudogene and not a druggable or therapeutic target. Any reference to functional effects, biomedical utility, or drug interaction should relate to the authentic U7 snRNA locus or protein complexes in which it is involved, but not the pseudogene RNU7-85P.
