Target intelligence / Profile preview
RNU7-88P is a pseudogene of the U7 small nuclear RNA (U7 snRNA) gene family. U7 snRNA is a non-coding RNA critical for the 3′ end processing of replication-dependent histone pre-mRNAs, a unique maturation pathway found in metazoans. Functional U7 snRNA is part of a small nuclear ribonucleoprotein complex (U7 snRNP) that is essential for accurate histone mRNA maturation. However, as a pseudogene, RNU7-88P is a genomic sequence related to U7 snRNA but typically non-functional, lacking regulatory elements or bearing mutations that prevent its normal RNA function. Such pseudogenes generally do not produce stable functional RNA or contribute to molecular pathways and are not proteins, receptors, enzymes, or other canonical drug targets. The functional U7 snRNA has been implicated in disease when mutated (e.g., Aicardi-Goutières syndrome via RNU7-1), but there is no evidence RNU7-88P is involved in any biological or disease process. Pseudogenes can be transcribed in some contexts, but there is no documentation that RNU7-88P is functionally active or of translational relevance. Pseudogenes are not included as classical molecular targets in therapeutic development, and there are no known interacting drugs. RNU7-88P is a non-functional pseudogene related to U7 small nuclear RNA and is not a therapeutic target, biomarker, or disease gene. Its role is limited to being a genomic relic, offering no currently recognized molecular or clinical activities.
