RNA, U7 small nuclear 97 pseudogene (RNU7-97P) is a human genomic pseudogene related to the U7 small nuclear RNA family. Unlike the canonical U7 small nuclear RNA, which is an essential component of the U7 snRNP complex involved in histone pre-mRNA processing[1][6][7], RNU7-97P does not encode a functional RNA molecule and is classified as a non-coding pseudogene[2][5]. Pseudogenes like RNU7-97P generally arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and may harbor sequence features of their parent genes but lack their biological activity or protein product[5][8]. There is currently no evidence that RNU7-97P serves as a protein, functional receptor, enzyme, or therapeutic target; nor is it recognized for established biological, disease, or pharmacological roles[2][8]. Pseudogenes overall may occasionally play regulatory roles (such as acting as sources for regulatory RNAs), but no such function has been confirmed for RNU7-97P[8].
