Overview

RNA, variant U1 small nuclear 32 (RNVU1-32) is a pseudogene that encodes a noncoding RNA similar to canonical human U1 small nuclear RNA (snRNA), which is a central component of the spliceosome and essential for pre-mRNA splicing[1][4][5]. The U1 snRNA family comprises both canonical snRNA genes and many processed noncoding RNA variants and pseudogenes dispersed throughout the genome. Historically considered nonfunctional, some variant or pseudogene copies (vU1 snRNAs) have been shown to be transcribed, processed, and incorporated into ribonucleoprotein complexes, potentially acting in regulatory roles influencing gene expression at the level of pre-mRNA processing in certain cellular contexts[5]. RNVU1-32 specifically is classified as a pseudogene and is not recognized as a therapeutic target; its biological significance is unclear, and it does not encode a protein or possess known receptor, enzyme, or transporter activity[1][5].
