Overview

RNA, variant U1 small nuclear 34 (RNVU1-34) is an annotated noncoding RNA gene summarized as a variant form of U1 small nuclear RNA. It is classified as a pseudogene or active variant possibly involved in pre-mRNA 5′-splice site recognition and U1 snRNP formation, based mainly on predictive annotation rather than experimental data. The canonical U1 snRNA is critical for spliceosome assembly and pre-mRNA splicing, and some variant U1 snRNAs show differential expression and functional impacts in model systems. However, for RNVU1-34 specifically, there is no evidence for a unique biological role, disease association, or targeting by drugs in the literature. Many variant U1 snRNAs expressed from pseudogenes are packaged into RNP complexes and may regulate gene expression at the level of pre-mRNA processing, but RNVU1-34 remains uncharacterized beyond bioinformatic prediction.
