RNA-binding motif protein, X-linked-like 3 (RBMXL3) is a primate-specific RNA-binding protein that contains an RNA recognition motif. It is involved in binding mRNA and snRNA, participating in mRNA splicing through the spliceosome, and modulating mRNA stability. A key identified function is the dexamethasone-inducible stabilization of human surfactant protein B (SP-B) mRNA in lung epithelial cells by binding to a specific 30-nucleotide hairpin element in the 3′-UTR, thereby influencing the pulmonary surfactant system. The gene shows some predicted involvement in sex reversal syndromes but has not been established as a classic therapeutic target or drug receptor[1][5][7][6][2][3].
