RNA binding motif protein, Y-linked, family 1 member H, pseudogene (RBMY1HP) is a member of the RBMY1 gene family encoded on the human Y chromosome in the AZFb azoospermia factor region[7][2]. The RBMY1 gene family includes both functional protein-coding genes (such as RBMY1A1) and several pseudogenes, among which RBMY1HP is classified as a pseudogene[7][2][3]. Pseudogenes are DNA sequences related to functional genes but do not encode a functional protein due to disabling mutations or lack of necessary regulatory elements. RBMY1 functional genes encode germ-cell-specific RNA-binding proteins thought to regulate pre-mRNA splicing during spermatogenesis and are considered important for normal sperm development[3][5]. However, RBMY1HP lacks evidence of functional protein product and is described by gene databases as a non-coding pseudogene; it is not a known therapeutic target and has no established interacting drugs or clinical biomarkers[7][3]. Although dysregulation of the broader RBMY1 gene family can be involved in spermatogenesis and Y chromosome microdeletion syndromes, RBMY1HP itself is not causally implicated in any disease or used as a biomarker[3][7]. In summary, RBMY1HP is a non-functional member of a testis-specific gene family with no known direct biological, clinical, or therapeutic role.
