Overview

RNA binding motif protein Y-linked family 2 member H, pseudogene (RBMY2HP) is a human pseudogene found on the Y chromosome[1][2][8]. It belongs to the RBMY (RNA binding motif, Y chromosome) gene family, which encodes germ-cell-specific nuclear RNA-binding proteins involved in spermatogenesis[3]. Unlike the functional RBMY genes, RBMY2HP is classified as a pseudogene, indicated by its nonfunctional structure—such as the absence of key exons required to produce a functional protein[3][5]. Pseudogenes like RBMY2HP generally do not code for a protein but may retain regulatory potential at the RNA level, such as acting as decoys for microRNAs or possibly affecting the expression of related protein-coding genes[4][6]. As of current knowledge, no definitive biological role or disease association has been described for RBMY2HP, nor is it a current therapeutic target or clinical biomarker.

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

Possible regulatory RNA function (as with some pseudogenes, though not specifically documented for RBMY2HP)May play a role in regulating expression of related gene family members by RNA transcript mechanisms (not experimentally confirmed for this specific pseudogene, but a property seen in some pseudogenes)
04

Disease associations

Other (no direct evidence or established disease association; RBMY gene family is linked to spermatogenesis, but pseudogenes like RBMY2HP are not known disease genes)
