RNA incorporation of fraudulent nucleotides refers to the process by which nucleotide analogs are mistakenly incorporated into RNA during transcription. These analogs mimic natural ribonucleotides closely enough to be accepted by cellular polymerases but differ structurally in ways that disrupt normal RNA function, stability, or downstream processes. This mechanism is exploited by certain drugs for therapeutic purposes, especially in cancer and antiviral treatments. Upon incorporation, these fraudulent nucleotides can cause chain termination, induce mutations or structural changes in the resulting RNA, disrupt normal gene expression and protein synthesis, or trigger cellular stress responses leading to apoptosis.
