RNA polymerase II subunit J4 (POLR2J4) is a pseudogene, not a protein-coding gene. It shares high sequence similarity with protein-coding genes (such as POLR2J, which encodes the RPB11 subunit of RNA polymerase II)[7][2][6]. Unlike its protein-coding counterparts, POLR2J4 does not encode a functional subunit of RNA polymerase II. Pseudogenes are generally classified as non-functional copies or remnants of genes that have lost their coding capability due to mutations[7][8]. While their main biological role may involve regulation of gene expression via RNA-based mechanisms, there is currently no evidence for direct protein function or involvement in human disease for POLR2J4. It does not serve as a therapeutic target, nor is it associated with drug interactions, biomarker utility, or safety concerns.
