Roundabout guidance receptor 1 (ROBO1) messenger RNA (ROBO1 mRNA)

ROBO1 mRNA is the messenger RNA transcript of the Roundabout Guidance Receptor 1 (ROBO1) gene, which encodes a transmembrane receptor essential for axon guidance and cell migration (UniProt, 2025; GeneCards, 2025). As a key component of the Slit/Robo signaling pathway, the ROBO1 protein interacts with Slit ligands to mediate repulsive signals during neuronal and vascular development (PubMed, 2014). ROBO1 mRNA is frequently overexpressed in various malignancies, including hepatocellular carcinoma, lung cancer, and breast cancer, where it promotes tumor cell proliferation, invasion, and metastasis (PubMed, 2006; PatSnap, 2024). Conversely, its downregulation is associated with poor prognosis in other contexts like cholangiocarcinoma (Frontiers in Oncology, 2022). Therapeutic strategies targeting ROBO1 mRNA primarily utilize RNA interference (RNAi) mechanisms, such as microRNA mimics (e.g., miR-218, miR-219) or small interfering RNAs (siRNAs), to induce mRNA degradation or translational repression, thereby reducing oncogenic protein levels (PubMed, 2019; PatSnap, 2024).
