Overview

The Salmonella Paratyphi A O-antigen-specific B-cell receptor is a membrane-bound immunoglobulin complex located on the surface of B lymphocytes that specifically recognizes the O:2 polysaccharide component of the Salmonella Paratyphi A lipopolysaccharide (PubMed, 2021). This receptor is a critical component of the adaptive immune system, serving as the primary sensor for detecting Paratyphi A infections and initiating the production of protective antibodies (Nature Reviews Immunology, 2020). Upon binding to its cognate O-antigen, the receptor triggers intracellular signaling pathways that lead to B-cell activation, clonal expansion, and differentiation into long-lived memory B cells and antibody-secreting plasma cells (Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2023). In the context of pharmaceutical development, these receptors are the intended targets of conjugate vaccines, which utilize the O-specific polysaccharide (OSP) to elicit a robust, T-cell dependent immune response (Vaccine, 2019).
