SAP30L antisense RNA 1 (head to head) (abbreviated as SAP30L-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene located on human chromosome 5. It is classified as an antisense RNA, meaning it is transcribed from the DNA strand opposite to the protein-coding SAP30L gene[4][5][6][7]. SAP30L-AS1 physically binds the promoter region of the neighboring SAP30L gene, repressing its expression. In prostate cancer, SAP30L-AS1 expression is upregulated, and promotes tumor growth by enhancing cell proliferation and inhibiting apoptosis in cancer cells. Conversely, knockdown of SAP30L-AS1 suppresses cancer proliferation and induces apoptosis[2]. Higher levels of SAP30L-AS1 correlate with more advanced disease and poorer prognosis. It is being explored as a potential target for cancer therapy, as well as a prognostic biomarker for patient stratification in prostate cancer[2][4]. No drugs currently target SAP30L-AS1 directly, and its use as a therapeutic target remains investigational.
