Serine Endopeptidase (Host Cell)

Molecular classification
Enzyme, Peptidase, Hydrolase, Serine hydrolase, Endopeptidase
01

Overview

Serine endopeptidases are a family of enzymes that cleave peptide bonds using a serine residue in their active site. They play critical roles in numerous physiological processes within host cells, including protein metabolism, blood coagulation, apoptosis, and immune response. Some serine endopeptidases, like TMPRSS2, are exploited by pathogens such as coronaviruses for viral entry, making them attractive drug targets. Inhibiting these enzymes can block viral replication. They are classified under EC 3.4.21.x.
