Serine protease 43, pseudogene (PRSS43P), also known as TESSP3, is annotated as a human pseudogene corresponding to the serine protease gene family[3]. Although predicted to act upstream of or within germ cell development and spermatogenesis, evidence for its protein product or enzymatic activity is lacking[8]. PRSS43P does not produce an active protease and is not currently implicated in human disease or considered a candidate for therapeutic intervention. Its sequence similarity places it in the serine protease gene cluster, but no interacting drugs, biological assays, or biomarker status are associated with this locus. If you are searching for a functional, druggable protease, you may want to investigate the closely related serine protease 43 (PRSS43) in model organisms such as mouse, which is involved in spermatogenesis but also reportedly lacks in vitro protease activity[9][11]. The human locus is considered noncoding and is not listed as an active or classical protein target.
