Serpin family A member 13, pseudogene (SERPINA13P) is designated as a pseudogene in the human genome and is a non-functional member of the serpin superfamily, specifically derived from clade A, typically associated with serine protease inhibition. Owing to sequence mutations, insertions, or deletions accumulated over evolutionary time, SERPINA13P is not capable of encoding a functional protein. Unlike its functional serpin family relatives (such as alpha-1 antitrypsin), the SERPINA13P locus is transcriptionally silent or yields non-functional RNA. As a result, it is not considered a therapeutic target and has no established biological or disease associations. It serves primarily as a genomic "fossil" or relic reflecting the duplication and inactivation of its parental gene family.
