Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Spike Glycoprotein Receptor Binding Domain (SARS-CoV-2 Spike RBD)

Target
SARS-CoV-2 Spike RBD
Molecular classification
Glycoprotein, Viral Protein, Receptor Binding Domain
01

Overview

The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) spike glycoprotein’s receptor binding domain (RBD) is a surface-exposed domain within the S1 subunit of the trimeric spike protein. It is responsible for binding to the human ACE2 receptor, enabling viral entry into host cells. The RBD is a primary target for neutralizing antibodies and is highly immunogenic, making it a principal antigen in vaccine design and a target for monoclonal antibody therapies and small-molecule inhibitors.
