Sialic acid binding Ig-like lectin 18, pseudogene (SIGLEC18P)

Target
SIGLEC18P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Immunoglobulin superfamily (I-type lectin, Siglec family)
01

Overview

Sialic acid binding Ig-like lectin 18, pseudogene (SIGLEC18P) is a human pseudogene belonging to the Siglec (sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-like lectin) family. Unlike other Siglec genes that encode glycan-recognizing immune modulatory proteins, SIGLEC18P does not produce a functional protein product due to disabling mutations in its coding sequence. Siglec pseudogenes, including SIGLEC18P, are remnants of once-functional immune regulators that have lost protein-coding capacity in humans, although homologous genes in other primates may still be active. SIGLEC18P is not considered a valid target for therapeutic intervention or pharmacological modulation.
