Overview

Small nucleolar RNA host gene 10 (SNHG10) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that has emerged as a significant regulator in human pathology, particularly in oncology and metabolic diseases (NCBI Gene ID: 100506600). It is located on chromosome 14q31.2 and is frequently overexpressed in various cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma, gastric cancer, and osteosarcoma, where it functions as an oncogene (PubMed: 32153614, PubMed: 32893714). Mechanistically, SNHG10 often acts as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA), sponging microRNAs such as miR-150-5p or miR-1271-5p to prevent them from silencing their target mRNAs, thereby promoting cell proliferation, migration, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (PubMed: 32153614). In addition to its role in cancer, SNHG10 is implicated in the progression of diabetic nephropathy by modulating inflammatory and fibrotic pathways in renal cells (PubMed: 33063451). While there are currently no FDA-approved drugs targeting SNHG10, it is considered a high-potential therapeutic target for antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) and siRNA-based therapies. Its specific expression patterns in diseased tissues also suggest its utility as a diagnostic or prognostic biomarker for patient stratification in precision medicine.
