Overview

The sodium channel protein responsible for the late sodium current (late INa) is a voltage-gated sodium channel, primarily found in excitable tissues such as nerve, muscle, and heart. It mediates fast depolarization during action potentials by allowing Na+ influx when activated by membrane depolarization. Late INa plays critical roles in cardiac electrophysiology: it contributes to action potential duration and arrhythmogenesis if abnormally increased.
