Sodium Ion (Peritoneal Diffusion) (None)

Target
None
Molecular classification
Electrolyte, Small molecule
01

Overview

Sodium ion (Na⁺) is a key extracellular electrolyte involved in fluid and electrolyte balance. In peritoneal dialysis, sodium moves across the peritoneal membrane via diffusion and convection. The rate of sodium transport is influenced by dialysate composition (sodium, glucose, icodextrin) and the characteristics of the peritoneal membrane. Clinicians adjust dialysate composition to optimize sodium and fluid removal while minimizing complications.

02

Mechanism of action
