Solute carrier family 2, facilitated glucose transporter member 12 (SLC2A12, also known as GLUT12) is a facilitative glucose transporter belonging to the class III subgroup of the SLC2A family[1][4]. It is widely expressed in human tissues, including skeletal muscle, adipose tissue, small intestine, heart, placenta, mammary tissue, and some cancers[1]. GLUT12 functions as a basal and largely insulin-independent glucose transporter, contributing to glucose uptake in various tissues, but it also serves as a sodium-independent, bidirectional urate transporter[3][5]. Its dysregulation is associated with altered metabolic states, cancer cell glucose metabolism, insulin sensitivity, and hyperuricemia or gout risk[1][3][5].
