Overview

Solute carrier family 2, facilitated glucose transporter member 7 (SLC2A7 or GLUT7) is a membrane protein in humans that functions as a facilitated transporter for glucose and fructose[1][2][4][5]. It is part of the GLUT (facilitated glucose transporter) family, characterized by 12 transmembrane helices and a conserved structural motif[2][3]. SLC2A7/GLUT7 is predominantly expressed in the small intestine, colon, testis, and prostate, with a key functional localization at the enterocyte brush-border membrane in the intestine[1][4]. It has high-affinity for both glucose and fructose transport (Km ≈ 0.3 mM for glucose; IC50 ≈ 0.06 mM for fructose), does not transport galactose, and is not inhibited by phloretin or cytochalasin B[1]. To date, no drugs are known to selectively target SLC2A7, and its precise role in human disease is not fully elucidated[5]. Its unique substrate profile and expression pattern suggest physiological importance in intestinal monosaccharide handling[1][4].
