Target intelligence / Profile preview
SLC6A21P is a pseudogene related to the solute carrier family 6 (SLC6) of transporters, which normally encode sodium- and chloride-dependent neurotransmitter and amino acid transporters[1][4][5]. However, SLC6A21P itself does not encode a functional transporter protein. Instead, it is a non-coding segment of DNA that resembles SLC6 family transporter genes but contains mutations preventing protein expression or function. As such, it has no known molecular function, druggability, or role in disease, and is not used as a therapeutic target[5].
