Target intelligence / Profile preview
The spike glycoprotein (S protein) of SARS-CoV-2 is a large, trimeric, class I fusion protein found on the surface of the virus. It is essential for viral entry into host cells and is the primary target for neutralizing antibodies and vaccine development. The ancestral reference sequence corresponds to the Wuhan-Hu-1 isolate. It mediates attachment/fusion with host cell membranes via ACE2 receptor.
