SSX family member 14, pseudogene (SSX14P; psiSSX4) is a member of the SSX gene family, which includes both protein-coding genes and pseudogenes. Unlike its protein-coding relatives (such as SSX4), SSX14P is a pseudogene, meaning it has lost its ability to encode a functional protein, generally due to mutations or truncations within its sequence. As a pseudogene, SSX14P has no confirmed role as a therapeutic target, biological function, or disease association in humans[4]. In the context of the SSX family, active members function as cancer-testis antigens and are investigated as potential immunotherapy targets in cancers such as synovial sarcoma and melanoma[1][2][3][5], but SSX14P itself is not implicated in these roles.
