Overview

SSX family member 15, pseudogene (SSX15P, also called psiSSX5 or SSXP5), is a human pseudogene classified in the SSX gene family. Unlike other SSX family members, which encode cancer-testis antigens of clinical interest, SSX15P does not produce a functional protein and has no established role in normal biology or disease. SSX family pseudogenes, including SSX15P, cluster on the X chromosome and are remnants of gene duplication events. There is no current evidence that SSX15P is expressed, encodes protein, or participates in cellular or pathological processes. The SSX gene family includes protein-coding members (e.g., SSX1, SSX2, SSX5) and multiple pseudogenes. Protein-coding members are studied as cancer-testis antigens and cancer targets, but pseudogenes like SSX15P are not drug targets, do not encode protein, and hold little relevance as therapeutic or biomarker targets. Some pseudogenes may play subtle roles in gene regulation or serve as non-coding RNAs, but there is no evidence supporting such a role for SSX15P. SSX family member 15, pseudogene (SSX15P) is a non-coding, non-target pseudogene with no described biological, pharmacological, or clinical function. Its inclusion in drug target lists would be an error.
