ST3GAL6-AS1 is a long non-coding antisense RNA located at chromosome 3q11.2, overlapping the ST3GAL6 gene. It is primarily nuclear and participates in the regulation of its neighboring gene, ST3GAL6, via interaction with RNA-binding proteins such as hnRNPA2B1. In cancer, especially multiple myeloma and lung adenocarcinoma, its expression correlates with altered tumor cell invasion, migration, and survival. Silencing ST3GAL6-AS1 in multiple myeloma cells inhibits proliferation and triggers apoptosis, implicating it as a potential therapeutic target. Its roles appear varied: oncogenic in multiple myeloma, tumor suppressive in colorectal cancer, and prognostic in lung cancer. There are currently no approved drugs targeting ST3GAL6-AS1, but antisense oligonucleotides have been used experimentally. The functional relevance and therapeutic implications require further investigation, especially concerning treatment combinations[1][2][3][4].
